If you are interested in joining KAYJO, then we are interested in you!
KAYJO is staffed by the area’s most gifted musicians. Most are from the Keller-area, but our lineup has also attracted jazz hotshots from high schools in Plano, Frisco, Mesquite, Azle, Denton and Cleburne. Home schoolers are also encouraged to audition.
Students are handpicked, based on competitive tryouts or referrals from top private instructors and band directors. All our members are All Region Band qualifiers, and for the past several years about a third of our kids have been All Staters. We are not a substitute for individual study. All our students take private lessons from top local teachers.
Our horn players are active in their school bands, so we suspend during marching season or UIL contest season. But we offer high achievers a great place to keep up their chops when school is out – Summer, Christmas holidays and Spring Break.
Tuition is based on the number of meetings per session. Each three-hour meeting is about the cost of a 30-minute private lesson.
The project was started in 2010 for local jazzers who could not afford costly out of town jazz camps. And between grants from the Arts Council Northeast, and sponsorship from the local business community — cost of KAYJO remains lower than most other camps or activities.
Considering guest artist visits, master classes with local pros, field trips and recording sessions – KAYJO may be the best value going! Apply for membership below. If you have questions in the meantime, contact us at kellerjazz@yahoo.com or (817)691-1205.
